:: CONNIE'S KITCHEN – PASSOVER FAVORITES

-- Creamy Matzo-Apple Kugel
Courtesy of "The Second Avenue Deli Cookbook" by Sharon Lebewohl and Rena Bulkin, Villard, 1999

This sweet and creamy kugel makes an impressive centerpiece for a Passover brunch. You can also serve it for dessert. Serves 6.

2 tablespoons plus 2 teaspoons unsalted butter
4 McIntosh apples, peeled, cored, and cut into 3/4-inch slices, 1/4-inch thick
1/2 cup raisins
1/2 cup sliced blanched almonds
10 squares plain unsalted matzo
4 eggs, beaten
2 cups sour cream
1/2 cup whipped cream cheese
3/4 cup sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon salt
Softened butter for greasing pan
Confectioners' sugar

Melt 2 tablespoons of the butter in a large skillet and saute apple slices on high heat, stirring occasionally, until soft and lightly browned. Remove to a large bowl with a slotted spoon. Add 2 teaspoons butter to the skillet, lower heat to medium, and quickly saute raisins and almonds, stirring constantly. Be careful not to burn them. Add to bowl with apples, and set aside.

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Place matzo squares in another large bowl, and run cool water over them to soften. Crumble the matzo, and drain in a colander. Return drained matzo to bowl.

Combine eggs with matzo and stir well. In another bowl, mix sour cream and cream cheese thoroughly. Then add it to the matzo mixture, along with sugar, cinnamon, salt, and fruit-nut mixture. Mix all ingredients thoroughly.

Grease a 10-inch square Pyrex baking pan (or similar) with butter (use quite a bit), pour mixture into pan, and bake for 50 minutes or until top is a light golden brown. Let cool on counter. Loosen sides with a knife, place a large platter over the baking pan, and carefully turn the kugel out onto the platter. If any pieces stick in the pan, just put them in place. When cooled, sprinkle top with confectioners' sugar (best done through a sieve or sifter). YOu can serve this kugel warm (not hot) or at room temperature, but we like it best chilled in the refrigerator with the confectioners' sugar added just prior to serving.

Shalom,

In light of the conference this Tuesday in Annapolis, MD (November 27, 2007) and the upcoming celebration of Hanukkah (December 5-12), we would like to offer a free download of our song, "Maybe Tonight" for the next two weeks, until the end of Hanukkah. You can download the song in MP3 format using the link below. (The lyrics to the song are given at the end of this message.)

May the Lord bless and keep His people during this ominous time, as the nations gather together to plan the division (and ultimate destruction) of Israel. However, God will not allow that to happen. He will keep His people.

Blessings to all our friends during this time.
Đ 2005 Lee Underwood
(Performed by Azuza — Bryan Wong: Bass guitar/drums; Beth Wong: Rhythm guitar/vocals; Lee Underwood: Lead guitar/vocals)

I see the darkness, surrounding me,
too much oppression, too hard to see.
Fight for your honor; fight for your right,
and when it's over, still there's no light.

Chorus:
I have looked to the heavens,
I have seen the light.
The Lord is coming,
maybe tonight.

Nations fight their wars but nobody wins,
and when it's over, darkness again
Israel is fighting for God's holy land,
and when it's over, that's where they'll stand.

Repeat Chorus

On the mount called Moriah, God's holy place,
the L-rd is returning, in glory and grace.
He shall reign forever, the God of Abraham,
we will bow down before Him, in His holy Land.

Repeat Chorus

.....................................................................

May the Lord bless and praise you as you walk in His light each day.

"Hear, O kings; give ear, O rulers! I — to the Lord, I will sing, I will sing praise to the Lord, the God of Israel." Judges 5:3
:: PRAYER REQUEST

The owner of one of the Internet radio stations that plays our music (as well as a lot of other good music), recently had knee replacement surgery. He is asking for prayer so we thought we would pass it along. You can obtain further information about his condition on his site at: http://christianmixinet.com/sinnersblog.html

The radio station is located at http://christianmixinet.com/ . Be sure to check it out, listen to some good music, and don't forget to request our songs!

:: TIP: GENERATE CUSTOM IPHONE RINGTONES FROM ITUNES SONG SAMPLES

With this hack, you'll be able use almost any of Apple's free 30-second song previews in iTunes, which happen to be available for every track in the vast music store, to create custom ringtones for your iPhone.

Here's a brief outline of the steps involved:

The first step is to create a new playlist of un-purchased songs, export that playlist, and then save it as text. When you open it up, locate the URLs for the audio files you want as ringtones; using those Web addresses to download the 30-second snippets of the songs.

Once the audio samples are downloaded, rename the tracks--giving them a name (while keeping the .m4p file extensions) that's more meaningful to you than Apple's obscure file designations. That way the tracks will be more easily recognizable for the songs they represent when you go to use them as a ringtone.

You'll be able to do that last bit after loading the files onto the iPhone. Once they're on the device, you simply pick the file you want to use as a ringtone just like you would with the ringtones Apple pre-loaded. The 30-second song previews you just added are now listed in Settings --> Sound --> Ringtone along with these other tones.

Go to this Web site for the detailed steps on how to perform this operation at tuaw.com. http://www.tuaw.com/2007/07/27/create-iphone-ringtones-from-itunes-previews/
:: NEW VIDEO - "HATIKVAH"
Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K5GNKd5rico

We are excited to tell you about our new video for our recording of
"Hatikvah," the Jewish national anthem. We hope that you will enjoy it
and share it with your friends. Be sure to leave your comments also!

Why is this important to Christians? Israel has been chosen by God to
be His people (Deutronomy 7.6), and He has chosen Messiah (and His
body) to be the anointed vessel in their midst. If we look at Exodus
17.8-13, we see that as Joshua is fighting the physical battle, Moses
(a picture of Yeshua) is fighting the spiritual battle. As followers
of Yeshua, we are to be as Moses, interceding for God's people. God
has redeemed His people, even according to His promises, and they are
back in the land He gave to them. God is ever faithful.

: History of "Hatikvah" - The Hope

Naphtali Herz Imber was born in 1856 into a Hasidic family. He
received a traditional education, and left home at an early age to
wander around the world. In 1882, he came to what was then called
Palestine and stayed for six years writing essays, poetry, and
articles for Hebrew periodicals.

"Tikvatenu", one of Imber's most popular poems, was first published in
1886, although it had initially been read in public as early as 1882
to a group of farmers in Rishon LeZion who received it
enthusiastically. Among them was Samuel Cohen, who was born in
Moldavia. He decided to set the poem to a traditional Moldavian-
Rumanian folksong called "Carul cu Boi" ("Cart and Oxen").

During the 1880's in Palestine, many tunes and adaptations became
folk songs, no one thinking of copyrights. The "Tikvatenu" melody thus
quickly became anonymous, and Imber's association with it, all but
forgotten.

Imber's poem "Tikvatenu" was later renamed "Hatikvah", and was sung at
the conclusion of the Sixth Zionist Congress in Basle in 1903. The
anthem was sung at all subsequent Zionist Congresses, and at the 18th
Congress, held in Prague in 1933, it was officially confirmed as the
Zionist anthem.

Imber's poem lived on, becoming the unofficial anthem of Jewish
Palestine under the British mandate. At the Declaration of the State
of Israel on May 14, 1948, "Hatikvah" was sung by the assembly at its
opening ceremony.

The words of "Hatikvah" have a timeless relevance for Jews everywhere,
reinforced by both good and bad experiences - reinforced by wars and
peace treaties alike. Naphtali Herz Imber's words are as old as the
Jewish people itself, yet they are also as young as the State of
Israel, which took them to its heart.

The wording went through a number of changes over the years,
reflecting changes of nationalistic ideas and customs. The words
"Where David once lived" were exchanged for "Zion and Jerusalem" in
the choruses. The poem was cut to two verses and the chorus and the
call was to be "a free nation in our own land," not just to "live in
the land of our fathers." The accent was switched to the Sephardic
pronunciation. The melody was also changed to fit the cadence and
syllable stress of the new version. These changes can be traced
through the various printed editions of the work such as the one from
the Hebrew Publishing Company of 1909.

The transliterated Hebrew lyrics:

Kol od ba le-vav pe-ni-ma
ne-fesh Ye-hu-di ho-mi-ya
ul-fa-a-tay miz-rach ka-di-ma
a-yin le-Tzi-on tzo-fi-ya

od lo av-da tik-va-te-nu
ha-tik-va bat shnot al-pa-yim
li-heyot am chof-shi be-ar-tze-nu
e-retz Tzi-yon vi-Y'ru-sha-la-yim
li-heyot am chof-shi be-ar-tze-nu
e-retz Tzi-yon vi-Y'ru-sha-la-yim

The English interpretation:

As long as deep in the heart
The soul of a Jew yearns,
And towards the East
An eye looks to Zion

Our hope is not yet lost
The hope of two thousand years.
To be a free people in our land
The land of Zion and Jerusalem.
To be a free people in our land
The land of Zion and Jerusalem.
:: OUR MUSIC IS BEING ADDED TO MORE INTERNET STATIONS

Recently, some of our songs were added to the regular line-up at
Christian Music Inet. The station is a personal ministry project of
Michael Hughes. He is located in Kansas City, Missouri. He has some
great music, which covers major artists as well as many independents
like us. Be sure to check it out! (You will be able to request our

Many radio stations that believe it is more worthy to praise the Lord
than to go the commercial route need your prayers. Some have even come
under attach by hackers and the like and they are in need of a hedge
of protection around them so they can continue to play music that
praises the Lord. Please support and encourage these stations by
listening, writing, donating, and commenting on their forums. They
would love to hear from you. You can find links to them on our Web
AZUZA NEWS
Passover Edition – March 2007
http://www.azuza.org
info@azuza.org

"That my soul may sing praise to You and not be silent."

"These are the appointed times of the Lord, holy convocations which you shall proclaim at the times appointed for them. In the first month, on the fourteenth day of the month at twilight is the Lord's Passover. Leviticus 23:4-5
:: TRADITIONS OF MEN

Passover is a celebration of God's deliverance of Israel from bondage in Egypt. It is also a celebration of the sacrifice of the Lamb of God. It seems that each year at this time the topic of 'traditional vs. Biblical' always seems to come to mind. This article examines the Biblical feast of Passover in its relation to the tradition of Easter.
:: "SONGS OF PASSOVER" CD

There is still time to order the "Songs of Passover" CD before Passover arrives. This CD features music of the Passover festival. Most of the songs are originals, written by Azuza, while the others are traditional songs, including Dayenu and Le-Shanah Haba'ah B'Yerushalayim. Come and join us as we praise and worship the Holy One and His Holy Lamb. You have the option to order from our Web site, download digitally, order from CD Baby, and even download from iTunes. Visit our Passover CD site at: http://www.azuza.org/songsofpassover/

This is from the "Songs of Passover" CD:

God's Mighty Hand – (The Story of Passover)
Genesis 37 - Joshua 3 | Đ 2006 Lee Underwood

Joseph went into bondage; at the hands of his brothers.
God sent him ahead; to prepare for the others.
In the eyes of the pharaoh; God raised Joseph up.
The Israelites they prospered; God blessed them well.

Soon a new pharaoh rose up; Joseph he did not know.
Enslaved God's people; into bondage they'd go.
Four hundred thirty years later; to the very day,
God freed His people; and led them away.

By His mighty hand; God brought forth His judgments,
Against Pharaoh and his people; and their pagan idols.
Blood, frogs, lice, and gnats; pestilence and boils,
Hail, locusts, and darkness; then He slayed the first born.

Into the Land He brought them; by His mighty hand.
Yet still He had to judge them; but His covenant stands.
Today we see Jacob; all across the Land,
Regathered together; by God's mighty hand.

Glory to our Creator; the God of Avraham,
Glory to the God of Jacob; and His blessed Son.
:: CONNIE'S KITCHEN – PASSOVER FAVORITES

-- Baker'sŪ One Bowl Macaroons
Prep Time: 10 min, Total Time: 1 hr 24 min
Makes: 2 dozen or 12 servings, 2 cookies each

2-2/3 cups Baker's Angel Flake Coconut
2/3 cup sweetened condensed milk
1 tsp. vanilla

Heat oven to 350°F.
Mix coconut, milk and vanilla in large bowl. Drop by heaping teaspoonfuls about 1-inch apart onto well-greased baking sheets. Press down ends of coconut with back of spoon.
Bake 10 to 12 minutes or until golden brown. Immediately remove from baking sheets. Cool completely on wire racks.

-- American Haroset
Serve this sweet fruit mixture on the Seder plate for Passover and as a side dish. Also makes a great topper for ice cream or matzos.

1 large apple coarsely chopped
1/2 cup chopped pecans
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1 tablespoon honey
2 tablespoons of Passover wine

Mix all ingredients together and chill. Note: The European version uses walnuts in place of pecans.

-- Easy Passover Chocolate Cake

1/2 cup butter (or parave margarine)
2 eggs
2 sq. baking chocolate
1+ tsp. vanilla
2/3 cup matzo cake meal
3/4 cup sugar

Mix melted butter (margarine) and chocolate, pour over sugar and mix. While this cools, beat by hand the two eggs well.
Add eggs to the cooled mixture and beat. Add the vanilla and cake meal and beat. Spread into an ungreased 8" x 8" pan and bake at 375°F. for about 25 minutes.

This recipe takes very little time to prepare (all beating is by hand) and is quite good.

-- Connie's Easy Matzo Ball Soup

This is a great way to have a homemade matzo ball soup in less than half the time it takes to make it from scratch. Be careful when buying the chicken broth in cans or cartons. Some brands contain yeast (which is not kosher for Passover). I found that College Inn brand does not contain yeast.

2 cartons (32 oz) chicken broth
1 roasted chicken (store bought, removed from the bone)
1 tsp oil
2 cubes chicken bouillon
1 glove garlic, chopped
1/2 small onion, chopped
3 or 4 large carrots, sliced
1 box matzo ball mix (2 packets in box)
1 tbsp fresh dill, chopped (fresh parsley may be substituted)

Saute the onion, garlic, and sliced carrots in oil.
Add chicken broth and all of the chicken.
Cook matzo balls (follow package directions) in water flavored with chicken bouillon.
When ready to serve, add matzo balls and chopped fresh dill to soup.

That's it! It will taste like you have been cooking in the kitchen all day!
Many radio stations that believe it is more worthy to praise the Lord than to go the commercial route need your prayers. :: New Azuza CD – "His Holy Temple"
http://www.azuza.org/hisholytemple/

We are excited to present to you, "His Holy Temple," a fresh sound from Azuza, to be added to your Messianic music collection. This 14 track collection of original praise and worship music has been professionally mastered by the famous Avi Yaffe Jerusalem Recording Studios in Israel.

The words and music for "His Holy Temple" are taken directly from both the Psalms and written by Azuza through inspiration from the Holy Spirit. The opening track, "Emmanuel," reveals in both Hebrew and English the beautiful names of Yeshua found in Isaiah 9:6, and sets up the next track, "His Holy Temple," which honors the names of the Holy One of Israel in both Hebrew and English.

We hope that you will enjoy this uniquely composed and arranged CD with its Messianic crossover style. "His Holy Temple" blends eclectic elements of jazz, blues, and classic rock using guitars, drums, vocals, and even an E-Bow. We believe you will greatly enjoy this powerful worship and praise music, focusing on the Holy One who sits on the throne and to His Lamb.
